Q:

Do scientists have a method of breaking CO2 down to oxygen and carbon? If so, would this be more cost effective than pumping CO2 into the Ocean?

Reg Mitchell answered on May 1, 1999, A:

We can do this, but not without using the same amount of energy that we got out of the carbon by burning the coal, oil or gas in the first place. Plants are the experts in using the sun as an energy source. Scientists are trying to do lab photosynthesis using sunlight, but it is not easy, and not yet feasible on a large scale.
