Job Summary: Elves Technologies Inc. is seeking a Senior Digital Holography Researcher who is ready to take the lead on our digital holographic microscope design, algorithm research, development and implementation, speckle noise removal, image processing algorithm development, and experiment and trial efforts, including transitioning the prototype into a product. In addition to researching and developing novel algorithms for digital holographic microscope products, position duties also include practical system setup and implementation, fine tuning mechanical and optical parts/components to enable accurate three-dimensional measurement, and finding solutions for high precision measurement challenges.
With expert knowledge and hands-on R&D experience in digital holography microscope, a novel algorithm tackling the challenges of heterogeneously characterized target object measurements and of wide and tall measurement range should be researched, developed and continually enhanced. Electronics and controllers, optics, lasers, machine vision camera, and image processing integration to a computer will be a key part of our productization efforts. The Senior Digital Holography Researcher will also be responsible for leading, guiding and growing Elves' Research Team, and establishing appropriate processes and culture going forward. The candidate will possess a sense of humour and enjoy doing what it takes to get multiple tasks done.
Lead and oversee the Research and Development Team, analyze User requirements, map out a R&D Strategy, schedule R&D, construct a R&D budget and collaborate with the Business Development Team.
Refine digital holographic microscope specifications requested by customers.
Study and select parts/components for optimal product design of holographic microscope products.
Design digital holographic microscope including optics, mechanics, electrical and electronic parts/components, and computer.
Invent novel holography algorithms, implement and prove algorithms in MATLAB and/or C/C++, tune and calibrate the holographic microscope system, and experiment, test, and analyze with the Chief Research Scientist Digital Holography Research.
Research and develop novel speckle noise removal algorithm along with in-painting and/or graphical algorithm to create smooth 3D depth map data for target objects error detection.
Research and develop advanced arbitrary phase shifting and phase unwrapping algorithm.
Create documentation including product specifications, system configuration drawings, bills of material, detailed design documents, white papers and patent documents.
Work with Mechanical Engineers and oversee high precision machine Vendors for outsourced works.
Masters Degree (PhD preferred) in Physics/Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering/Experimental Mechanics or related field with 5+ years of experience.
5+ years of experience in digital holographic microscope and related fields with outstanding achievements.
5+ years of experience in optical/mechanical and laser application design systems.
Strong experience in laser, fiber devices, liquid crystal and nano devices, piezo devices, industrial machine vision camera, optomechanical parts, optical tolerances and design considerations.
Demonstrated understanding of assumptions and pros/cons of simulating tools for optical system design.
5+ years of experience using MATLAB, LabVIEW and/or C/C++ for algorithm implementation for proof-of- concept.
Experience taking products to market with increased desirability.
Experience realizing interfaces with camera, optical switch and various controllers with a computer either with USB or PCIe.
Ability to be flexible and work in a fast-paced startup environment.
Must possess excellent communication skills and enjoy collaboration and cooperation with members of the team.
Wage: Senior Digital Holography Researcher’s base salary shall be $110,000.00 CAD per annum. In addition to the base salary, the Board may award an annual bonus of up to 10.0% of the base salary to the Researcher following the end of each fiscal year during the employment period upon the company achieving certain operating targets as determined by the Board at the beginning of each fiscal year.
