Developed method to reclaim chlorinated fluorocarbons (CFC), which had been commonly used as refrigerants.
Filipovic was the first female professional engineer employed by Linde Division of Union Carbide Canada Inc. She co-invented the “Blue Bottle” technology that helps people safely recover halogenated hydrocarbon compounds, such as refrigerants, CFCs, methyl bromide fumigants and other toxic substances, for re-use. A single CFC molecule can destroy 100,000 ozone layer molecules.
In 1991, Filipovic started her own business, Halozone Technologies Inc., to commercialize the “Blue Bottle” process. Halozone Technologies Inc. received U.S. Environmental Protection Agency certification in 1994. In 1997, she became President of Canada's Energy and Environmental Research Corporation (CanadEER Ltd.), which specializes in air pollution emissions reduction technology. Filipovic received the 1993 Manning Principal Award.
