The Story
Helen Battles Hogg-Priestley (née Sawyer) began her research in the field of globular star clusters and their variable stars while working towards her PhD in astronomy (Radcliffe, 1931). She worked with major telescopes in Victoria, BC; Tucson, Arizona and Richmond Hill, Ontario. Well known for her lectures and her radio and television shows, Hogg published numerous scholarly articles and the popular book The Stars Belong to Everyone. She was awarded the Sandford Fleming Medal by the Royal Canadian Institute in 1985. The minor Planet No. 2917 was named Sawyer Hogg.
